Looking Forward

A useful thing I’ve done for the last few years is to take the week between Christmas and the New Year to do some pondering. I have discovered that this sort of deep thinking is best done quietly, by oneself, and in very comfortable clothes (quality pondering doesn’t necessarily require pajamas, but it’s an excellent starting point!).

To be perfectly candid, it’s been a goat rodeo of a year. To be bluntly honest, it’s been that way since Covid first hit the world in 2020 – and don’t get me started on the fact that “2022” is pronounced “twenty twenty, too.” For me, this year has had some dazzlingly bright spots and some downright lovely realizations, but it’s also been Terribly Hard (hence no posting from me for the last two months). There has been a distinct lack of even keel moments this year – it’s always seemed to be leaning one way or the other and often, the bad has seemed to be Very, Very Bad.

So what’s a Diva to do?

Straighten her tiara and start over.

In the coming year, I’m going to continue looking for the positive in life and I expect to try new things – eat new foods, visit new places, support new businesses – and my challenge to myself is to treat myself more like company. As you know from reading this blog, I maintain that self-care is decidedly NOT selfish. We cannot give others water to drink if our own cup is empty. Personally, even though I know that to be true, it is still very difficult for me to take proper care of myself. Speaking from experience, it’s a good idea to start slow and small – something as simple as drinking a glass of water in the morning or walking around the block after supper can be quite an accomplishment for those of us used to taking care of everyone but ourselves.

I hope you’ll join me in this next chapter. If you’re interested, I suggest looking over the “30 Days” posts and the “Diva Drills” that you’ll find collected under the Resources tab to help you take the first steps. I’ll be posting on my own progress and I look forward to hearing about yours, too.

Let’s go, Divas!
