During the long July 4th weekend, I have planned to do some home caring tasks and some self-care. I’m still adjusting to this new work schedule and finding my footing in the job itself. And those efforts are bearing fruit.
For years, I’ve tried to live by the idea that self-care isn’t about holidays as much as it is about building a life you can enjoy every day. It’s hard (at first) to build time for yourself into your day, but with practice, it becomes easier and once you see the benefits — well, you won’t turn back!
So start small, but start. Try the “Diva Drills” here at Splendor if you need some help getting started. But please, please start.
Let’s see where these efforts has led to for me . . .
Today, I visited the local farmer’s market and enjoyed an amazing coffee at Press. I browsed my favorite used bookstore and completed a painting. Near sunset, I’ll water my container plants and (maybe) get that last butterfly bush in the ground. It’s too hot to go walking right now, so I’m going to read more of my cozy mystery. Dinner will be simple and might come with a classic movie I haven’t seen before. (Maybe Sunset Boulevard. Can’t believe I haven’t seen that.)
Now, it’s taken me a long time to get to the point that I would do all of this on a random Saturday. It comes from building a life that prizes home life and being a part of my community.
Start small. But start, dear Divas.
