Always remember that joy is armor.
There are, sad to say, people in the world who view open and obvious female joy as unseemly. They will look disapprovingly at you when you are what they view as “too much.”
Smile brightly at them and go your own way.
Yesterday, on the spur of the moment, I joined a few friends and went to the Official Release Party for Taylor Swift’s newest album, The Life of a Showgirl. While not a die-hard Swiftie, I enjoy her music. Further, her business acumen and work ethic are hard core awesome.
The 5pm showing was filled with feathers, sequins, and glitter (one theater worker said sweeping up from these showings was “like working at a strip club with popcorn”) worn by everyone from a birthday party of 11-year-olds to — well, me.
It was fun. All lyrics were the “clean” version – Swift knows she’s got young fans – and I really enjoyed the stories behind the songs.
Swift might not be your thing – cool.
Just enjoy – out loud and without apology – whatever it is that makes your heart full.
