One Good Thing

To me, February is a hard month. It tends to be grey and cold and – to add insult to injury – damp. For this Diva, the blues come a singin’ this month.

To fight this, I decided to set myself a challenge for this week. You might want to join with me. I’m calling it the “Everyday Elegance” challenge. The rules are simple – take that extra minute or two to live one little part of your life with an extra touch of dash and style. This can take many, many forms. For example . . .

Today, I knew I had a long workday ahead of me (about twelve hours), so I made sure to tuck a lipstick into my pocket and re-apply it often. I gave myself a spritz or two of Shalimar before setting out to the office. (I do love perfume, but I try to keep it light. My rule of thumb is “if someone can tell what your scent is, you’re wearing too much of it.”) I took two minutes before my after-work meeting to touch up my makeup and take a few deep breaths instead of just running from project to project feeling like a frumpy drudge. And I enjoyed my classic red manicure – I did that one myself yesterday and it’s not very good up close, but it’ll do for a day or two.

That’s it! Nothing major, certainly nothing that required a production. But a few things that made me slow down just for an extra moment or two and enjoy being where I was.

Everyday Elegance. Join me tomorrow!

. . . there may be hats involved . . .
