One Good Thing

It’s Day 2 of the “Everyday Elegance” experiment and I have to admit – I’m having a lot of fun with this! It was fun to figure out how I was going to meet the challenge of doing something small today to bring grace and style into an ordinary workday.

Today, I took a usual work outfit and elevated it by wearing some jewelry that I don’t usually take out of the box. Those amethyst pieces in the picture at the head of the post aren’t expensive; they’re just replicas inspired by Art Deco style, but they’re pretty and I don’t usually wear them. I added the teal pashmina and headed out to work feeling a little more put together than I do most days. Honestly, this is a wonderful time to bring out the “good stuff,” whether that’s your heirloom jewelry, a handbag you usually save for something special, all those spa samples you have in a drawer in the bathroom, your grandmother’s china – well, you get the idea. Stop hoarding the best for some far-off “special occasion” and make today the special occasion!

The weather agreed with this experiment and we had an unseasonably warm and sunshiny day which meant driving home with the top down on Mustang Sally and loudly playing music I enjoy. I touched up my red lipstick at a stoplight and considered how fortunate I am that, at least some days, I get to be the creature that I always meant to be. And if anyone thought there was something a little off with the “une femme d’un certain âge” in the car next to them, they (wisely) kept it to themselves.

What will Day 3 bring?
