My Beloved is an avid tabletop gamer. He’s been doing this since he was a boy and he’s got a core group of friends (dating back to junior high!) that come to our house once a month to play for a few hours. Those friendships are so important to all of them and it’s great to hear them laugh and joke and make-believe during their sessions.
Today, one of the gang brought Valentine candy boxes to all of us – I was delighted to be included. (They’ve invited me to join, but it’s their thing far more than mine and I enjoy having the house to myself to do my own thing for those afternoons. Today, for instance, I painted swans. Beautiful, romantic birds that mate for life and are meaner than snakes. But they are undeniably pretty. I rather like that one of them is a little ruffled. I feel ya, Swan.)

So for Day 7 of the Everyday Elegance experiment, I slowly savored a delicious chocolate caramel from a box covered in roses and read poetry.
Honestly, if you don’t read poetry as a regular part of your life, give it a try. It’s not all “moon, June, spoon” stuff. Any mood, any emotion, any particle of being human – there’s a poem about it. Click here for a place to start. Or here.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this week of “Everyday Elegance.” While I don’t think I’ll continue to post everyday about this, it’s been a great way for me to deliberately include these graceful touches into my daily life. I certainly think it’s made this past week more pleasant and I hope you agree with me.
On to another Good Thing!
