One Good Thing

I came home today from a long day at work, followed by a few errands. I stepped into the house and immediately became an excitable small child.

WE’RE ON OUR WAY TO THE MOON, BABY!

NASA has successfully launched Artemis II,  the first crewed deep-space flight mission in more than 50 years. These brave explorers intend to travel around the Moon and return safely home, testing a new rocket and capsule system and taking the first steps toward a return to manned space exploration. You can follow the 10-day journey here.

I was just a toddler during the last manned space missions to the Moon and I grew up with the space shuttle, which means I was extremely nervous watching liftoff, especially from one particular camera angle that always will remind me of of the 1986 Challenger tragedy. I’ve always thought NASA represented the best of what science can do – plus, I get a kick out of knowing that, somewhere on that multi-billion dollar capsule, is a roll of humble, hardware store duct tape.

Space exploration. Going beyond what we know. Learning and stretching.

All very, very Good Things.
