Today, I got to do one of my favoritest things ever – lead a watercolor class!
Mind you, when I started painting, I literally NEVER THOUGHT I’d ever be “good enough” to do that. It still blows my mind into outer space sometimes.
But so much of anything is repetition. I’ve worked at learning watercolor painting for nearly seven years. That’s more than 2,500 days. While I haven’t painted every day, I’ve painted most of them. And I already had a good idea of how to teach. But leading a class – that still gets me in the feels.
We worked on painting bright, retro-style Christmas lights, and my class did fantastic work! No two looked the same and everyone (I think) left happy.
Plus, this was part of celebrating 20 years of Got Books, an independent bookstore here in town. Bestsellers, classics, niche, albums, coffee, tarot decks, crystals – they have it all!
They really are great, and you should check them out.
Also, follow the basic steps and you too can paint Christmas lights! Use a pencil to draw your lights and wires – I used marker to make them easier to see – and keep it light by erasing lines that are too dark before you start with the paint. You can do it with a dollar store paint set and inexpensive watercolor paper. Just mix pigment with water, keep the layers thin, allow them to dry thoroughly, and be warned that you might catch the painting bug!
