One Good Thing

Over at work, we’ve had a number of staff out lately (all for Very Good Reasons) and it’s been hectic. In fact, I sort of let it get to me yesterday and I needed to re-set my attitude for today. I did, and I was amazed at how much better a busy day can be when I’m trying hard to get out of my own way.

At any rate, I leave the office and am having my usual Wednesday “catch up on the drive” phone call with my faraway best friend when I hear my work phone ring and shrug it off – I’ll deal with that later. Then, as I’m stopped at a red light, I notice my boss in the turn lane next to me, making the international sign for “roll down your window.” Confused (and fully expecting to hear that a tire looks low or something like that), I comply and hear him excitedly ask me if I want to know where the best greasy spoon is, because he’s going there and I’ll never find it on my own. Still confused, but now intrigued, I tell ZenPainter that I’ll call her right back. I turn right and follow him to The Arsenal and it was TOTALLY worth it! Further, my boss is right – I drive right by the turn into the dirt lot for The Arsenal twice a day and never knew it was there.

It’s been around for more than 50 years (back when you could get five hot dogs for a dollar, I’m told) and is so well known that it doesn’t have a sign. Seriously, The Arsenal is just this little hole-in-the-wall attached to (wait for it) a fireworks store. I’m introduced to the cashier, I get a paper menu and I learn that I can buy Cheerwine in a bottle there. Also, the desserts aren’t on the menu because they change each day, depending on what they feel like making.

Mama, I’m home.
