Continuing with my version of The 100-Day Project! I am especially pleased that I managed to keep painting while visiting Dad this past weekend. I packed a abbreviated version of things (watercolor postcards, a simple 12-color palette, two brushes, pencil, liner, white marker, and eraser) and made sure to choose some simple projects that could be done with layers of wet on dry, so I could do them in very short bursts. I’ve also done a couple of more complicated projects on the weekend when I have more time. On all of these, if there isn’t a size indicated, it’s one of the 4 x 6 postcards.
So I’m about a third of the way through right now. I see a real willingness in me to try different techniques and subjects and I’m getting (very slowly!) less attached to the outcome and happier about the process. Sometimes, I get surprised, as I did with the “Dandelions” piece. I really love that nearly Klimt-like feel to the background. (Salt is your friend, but you MUST let it get bone-dry!) I really think I might use that for my next class. We’ll see.
