Such a nice day!
A friend had an extra ticket to Stereophonic and kindly asked me to go. This show is basically a fictionalized version of the tribulations Fleetwood Mac had during the insanely-long recording of Rumours, which is possibly a perfect album. The band dealt with interpersonal infighting, WAY too much cocaine, and insecurities clashing with ego for months on end. The art is great, the process is awful and the show (which is a play, not a musical, although it’s about creating music) captures that tension gorgeously. Everything takes place on a single set – the recording studio – and the songs are live every night. As in, recorded during that performance.
I enjoyed the show, but the time spent with my friend was fabulous in and of itself. Having that time to talkandtalk on the drive and after the show was just lovely. We got to Charlotte early and a street festival was happening near the theatre, so we wandered a bit. We noticed a huge number of girls wearing cowboy boots – we found out later that the Zac Brown Band is playing a concert there tonight, which explained the boots. (And possibly the street preacher yelling, “Jesus loves you! Jesus loves cowgirls, too!” Good to know, sir.)
Afterward, we walked to the nearby Amélie’s bakery for a light dinner. I always enjoy this European-style bakery and I wanted to introduce it to my friend, who seemed to really enjoy it, too. Plus, I brought home a few macarons, which always makes me happy. Yes, I want to rein in my sweet tooth and the best way for me to do that is to avoid cheap junk and indulge in the REALLY GOOD stuff! Nomnomnom!
