One Good Thing

I haven’t written a “Gaffney edition” of one of these for a while but, rest assured, there are Good Things in Gaffney. A week of frequent rain has eased the drought and it’s been good for the flowers in the little park next to City Hall. The day lilies are gorgeous and at home, I can see hints that my gladioli will be blooming in a week or so.

I went walking at lunch today – there was a breeze keeping things from being crazy-humid. I turned into an antique mall/flea market and ran across bookshelves made from old wooden crates from one of Gaffney’s big peach orchards. Peaches are still a big deal in South Carolina. We grow more of them than Georgia. We really like them in Gaffney.

The antique shop featured some really cool news clippings from “back in the day,” too. I mean, when’s the last time you saw a store refer to a day of sales as a “humdinger?”

Exactly.
