One Good Thing

I spent quite a bit of yesterday driving and today’s One Good Thing came from me noticing a lovely thing that the Great State of North Carolina has done since the mid-80s – our massively gorgeous wildflower-covered highway medians.

Not only do these splashes of color cheer up a long drive, they also help pollinators survive and spread more native species throughout the state. The 14 highway districts of the state even compete to have the prettiest swaths of interstate highway, which is pretty cool.

You can buy North Carolina’s specially-made wildflower highway mix and plant your own, although it’s too late in the year now. (Fall is the best time, and the link will give you directions.)

Why not spend some time in the flowers around you today?
