Today’s One Good Thing comes via gorgeous get-out-of-the-house weather. My part of North Carolina has been enjoying a few days of spectacular weather – warm, but not hot and humid, with gorgeous clear skies. Just perfect for taking the top down on Mustang Sally, packing plenty of water, and searching for adventure.
One of my hobbies that fell by the wayside as Pyrite University became more and more stressful before the recent horrific collapse is geocaching. Something about the combination of GPS tracking and treasure hunting appeals to me. While many caches are tucked under the skirting of lampposts in parking lots (quick finds known as “park & grabs,” the really fun ones are tucked away in small parks, historical sites, and other often-overlooked places. (There’s one at Pyrite U, for instance.)
I only stumbled into briars once during my recent five-cache tour. I discovered a lovely veterans’ park, an abandoned gold mine, a public garden (that’s the photo at the top of the post) and more, all while enjoying the wind in my hair and sparkling sunshine.
You might want to give it a try – it’s a great way to learn more about your own backyard!
