One Good Thing

Today’s One Good Thing is the result of a large household inconvenience. Several days ago, our dryer stopped spinning. We figured out where to hang the wet clothes and – with the help of the Internet – were able to diagnose the problem. We had a broken drive belt – no belt, no spin. No spin, no tumble dry.

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention, so we dove into the world of DIY YouTube videos while my bemused mother-in-law kindly took our laundry. Turns out that this is a fix that can be done by ordinary folks, provided there are a few basic tools on hand and that you’ve got some time. (Yeah, the video might only be 15 minutes long, but they know what they’re doing!)
We ordered the belt, which arrived last night. Today, I figured I’d give it a go.

Belt replaced, drum reinserted (and balanced on a roll of duct tape!), ready to put the front panel back on!

It took a while – I’m not especially handy, plus I’m left-handed, which meant I needed to reverse a few things on the video. I had the dryer disassembled and tools spread down the hallway. I nearly trapped myself in a snug space duct-taping the dryer vent in place. I definitely yelled in frustration a few times and I intensely dislike whoever came up with the idea of a plastic wire harness that “easily snaps apart.” Sure it does. And yes – one Band-Aid was required.

But — I did it. I fixed the dryer. Listen to it spin!

You can do more than you think, Divas. You really can.

Plus, a powder dip manicure can even stand up to home repairs!
