One Good Thing

Since I’d been too stubborn to have my throat checked when it first became an issue, recovery from the procedure has been slightly more involved. Compared to what many undergo with respiratory problems, it’s been no big deal, but I certainly noticed that I didn’t just bounce back in two days.

However, yesterday, I felt like getting out of the house and drove to the flattest, smoothest trail I could think of. I continually gave myself a pep talk – “You can do this. Nothing to prove; stop whenever you want to stop. It’s not about speed. It’s not even about distance; it’s just about getting out and moving.” I was so busy pep-talking myself that I didn’t really notice that I wasn’t having to stop to gasp, catch my breath, or cough like a Victorian consumptive. I was sloth-slow, but I covered 1.6 miles without stopping and today, I went a little bit further!

So a big yay! for medical science and mild December weather!

Also, it’s Christmas Eve Eve, so be sure you’re doing nice things for those around you. Fill the bird feeders. Clear out a closet and drop outgrown coats off at a charity doing hard work for those who are often ignored. Donate your Reverse Advent Calendar box. Tie a scarf around a tree for someone who needs it to find. And – no matter what – do it quietly without expecting clicks, rewards, or likes.

Be quiet enough and you just may hear the beating of an angel’s wings.

Go do good work.
