One Good Thing

May your holidays have been merry! I sincerely hope they were filled to the brim with joy, kindness, wonder, and all manner of good things.

Mine were lovely – it was certainly a painter’s holiday, as you can see from the pictures – but my One Good Thing today is that I am learning to lean into Twixmas – a term I didn’t even know a few days ago, but to which I am now a thorough convert. EVERYONE should be celebrating this magical time of the year. (I’ve also heard it called “Feral Week,” but I’m liking “Twixmas” more. You should, of course, do you.)

As much as I know that busy-ness is properly identified as a medical malady, I still fall into its cunningly-laid trap. Do that too much and the holiday become chores instead of respites from the everyday. And when my Beloved and I took a few minutes to Take Stock of the Year (as so many do at this time of year), the inescapable fact of that matter is that it’s not just been a hard year; it’s actually been a rough half-decade. We have staggered forward, bearing the marks of grief, loss, illness, betrayal, and fear.

That will take a toll on a body.

So yes – Twixmas sounds like a wonderful idea. I have good food to eat, lovely books to read, puzzles to thoughtfully assemble (on a puzzle table with drawers to organize pieces and keep me from getting stray pieces stuck to my socks!), art supplies to play with, and my Beloved to share it all with. Dearest Divas, I urge you to Take Stock as well. Spend time with the whos, whats, and wheres that uplift you and bring you closer to the magnificent being you were brought to this earth to be. And do whatever best suits you. Make excuses to no one.

Bloom, lovelies.
