One Good Thing

Often, when Divas have a sudden and dramatic change in our lives, we make a corresponding outward change. For example, a sudden change in hairstyling can often be traced to a big change in a Diva’s life.

My big change has to do with the “Diva Dispatch” section of Splendor. I’m going to add “One Good Thing” as a regular feature. It’ll be shorter than the usual Dispatches and focus on one little thing I’ve noticed in the last day that was cheerful, elegant, thoughtful, and/or beautiful. It’s good to look for these things in our daily lives, for as we seek, so shall we find, and we all need more Good Things in our lives.

For my first Good Thing — I made dinner for my Dad last night. Nothing fancy – or even truly homemade! Caesar salad from a bag, lasagna from the freezer, and pudding from a box. But I took an extra minute or two to spoon the pudding into some of my late mother’s pretty glasses, then topped it with (admittedly fake) whipped cream, pine nuts (there was a big bag of those on the counter), and a bright red maraschino cherry. Dad seemed delighted and all I had to do was hand-wash two dessert glasses, which also made me think of my mom.

A small price to pay to make the man who paid for college smile, I thought.

What’s your One Good Thing?
